Coming to a theater near you… I wish…
So I’ve been daydreaming about my novel, “The Time Telephone” being made into a movie. Am I the only one who thinks it would make a really good film? Surely not. But who to cast? Well, I just happen to have some ideas.
First, I think Sally Field would be awesome as Judge Kate McConnell – Megan’s grandmother. She certainly has the gravitas to play the role of Kate, and the tenderness. Of course, there’s also the possibility of casting Meryl Streep, (with dark brown hair.) But she’s in so many movies. I vote for Sally Field.
Second, there’s Megan herself. I’m sure a number of teenaged actresses would fill the bill, including Lara Robinson, a young Australian actress, and Stella Ritter, the daughter of the late John Ritter. They both have the look of the character as she’s described in the novel.
The actress who plays Megan’s mother – the globe-trotting foreign correspondent – would be very important to the success of the movie. While Megan and her grandmother are supposed to resemble each other – both of them brunettes – Megan’s mother, Jody, is a blonde. I’m thinking someone along the lines of Tea Leoni or Charlize Theron. Both are the right age and could pull off the network correspondent who chooses career over motherhood.
Two supporting characters who I love are Kieran Mehta and Rikki Washington. Kieran’s father is from India, his mother is a red-headed Irish American. I can imagine Dev Patel in that role. Patel is the brilliant young actor in “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.” Rikki is a smart, beautiful black teenager who befriends Megan. A couple of actresses who look right to me for this part are Coco Jones, who’s a singer and an actress, and Ajiona Alexus, who played DeAnna on “The Rickey Smiley Show.”
Of course, it all depends on how long it takes for a movie to get made, doesn’t it? So I shouldn’t get ahead of myself. But nothing wrong with daydreaming.
